Learning Outcomes

This module focuses on reviewing concepts and formalisms of real-time and embedded systems. It examines real-time scheduling and resource management issues and explores the programming languages, paradigms, operating systems, simulators, and middleware for these systems. Challenges encountered in wireless sensor networks and the Internet of Things (IOT) are also presented. Programming projects in STM32 MCUs will be assigned to students.

  • MCU programming, I/O management, time and interrupt signals management
  • Multi-tasking and scheduling techniques in embedded systems
  • MCU interconnection with analog signals and sensors
  • Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS):
    • scheduling algorithms in RTOS
    • interprocess communication, priority management, timing issues
  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Case studies
