Learning Outcomes

This course focuses on the design of digital systems for addressing environmental challenges. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • identify an environmental problem,
  • collect the required data from individual sensors, networks, and online sources,
  • organize and analyze environmental data,
  • design integrated digital information services.

Indicative Module Content

The course covers the following topics:

  • Environmental informatics processes
    • measurement, collection, storage, processing, visualization, interpretation, modeling, dissemination
  • Digital twins
  • Digital information services
  • Application examples

A substantial part of the course is devoted to a group project that makes use of documentation, collaboration, and workflow automation tools, such as Markdown, GitHub, and Makefiles.
