Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • estimate electromagnetic noise
  • select the design parameters of radio amplifiers
  • to dimension and select appropriate transmission lines and antennas
  • estimate the radiation patterns of radio transmitting and receiving antennas
  • calculate the propagation losses
  • determine the design parameters of cellular mobile systems communications
  • estimate the gaps and the resulting error rate
  • calculate uplink and downlink interference
  • apply channel allocation algorithms to cells
  • choose the appropriate transmission implementation parameters
  • know the architecture of wireless mobile systems
  • design wireless and mobile telecommunication systems of small- and large-scale scale

Indicative Module Content

Presentation of the basic principles, problems and techniques of wireless and mobile communication systems. Study of the issue of electromagnetic noise in all forms of electronic communication. Basic principles of transmission lines and antennas. Basic issues of electromagnetic wave propagation and wireless channel modeling. Mobile communications propagation environments with emphasis on small- and large-scale dropout phenomena. Cellular structure for serving users of mobile communications networks and sizing issues based on traffic volume and service level. Noise and interference mitigation, multiple access mechanisms and wireless resource management, Forwarding. Architectures and characteristics of 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th generation mobile communication networks.
